CHRISTIAN BÖK
Calgary-based sound poet Christian Bök renowned for his extreme vocal rigor and calculating compositions will perform from his seminal work Eunoia and a lightning speed rendition of Kurt Schwitters’ Ursonate.

Eunoia is a story that uses only one vowel in each of its five chapters (that is, a lipogram) and is one of the best-selling works of Canadian poetry which won the lucrative Griffin Poetry Prize in 2002. Bök has also worked in science-fiction television, designing artificial languages for fictional alien species.

JESSIKA KENNEY + PARVANEH DANESHVAR
Vocalist Jessika Kenney gives a solo performance inspired by the relationship between text and sound in the Classical Persian traditions of poetic recitation. Underlying the sounds, syllables, and melodic essences of radif, is a layer of bodily memory which embraces regeneration. With this second tongue of Persian emerging from study of the Classical poetry she explores an unresolvable play between meaning and the unknown. Video projections of natural and unnatural light, and painting on transparent surfaces echo this layering.
